The Now FAMOUS Dollar Store Hurricanes!

By now, you must have seen Decor Chick's Dollar Store Hurricane's.  I tried mine this weekend, and plan to make many more!  Just as she promised, I found the hurricanes at my Dollar Tree store for yep, $1!  Although they had no candle holders, I found those at the local Kmart for $1.49.  They were super easy to make.  Just glued the candle holders to the bottom of the hurricanes, using Gorilla Glue.  But one tip:  I used a little too much glue, and it seeped down into the candle holder.  If you look closely at the hurricane on the left you can see it.  Next time I'll be more careful.  I shopped the house, and filled them with some potpourri and wrapped with raffia.  I think I like the look of twine better, but I used what I had.  I love the final result!

Thanks Decor Chick!

  1. Oh Rhonda they look beautiful!! I LOVE these things! Oh yes, you can't use too much of that glue. I made some very messy ones before, and of course that stuff is so strong so I couldn't get it off. Now I've learned. :) Thanks so much for the link back! :)

  2. Rhonda,
They turned out great. Despite having 3 Dollar Tree stores nearby, I have yet to find them!! Will keep looking. I'd love to make some for gifts for the holidays.

  9. I made mine about a month ago and I am going to make a couple for my mom. DT had some smaller vases and I brought 2 of them and I am planning on making smaller hurricanes to go with my bigger ones. I was trying to decide what I wanted in my hurricanes and I finally decided to do stecile in silver paint with wording. I am planning on using it for candles. I may make another one for seasonal items (just have to find a place that is cat friendly and kid safe) for my living room. I know when I brought my supplies at DT everyone that was in line with me thought it was such a cool and easy project.

  10. Hi, I'm so excited about trying this. Do you have any suggestions on other fillers, I'ld love to make these as presents, but sometimes it's hard for me to think outside the box and move past the example shown!

  11. Hi all,
Thanks so much for your comments!! To Dawn, I have not tried to order in bulk, but a great idea - thank you!

To Anonymous - for filler, I've been trying to come with things other than the realiable potpourri. Candy corns for Halloween, shells and sand for a beach theme, even polished rocks would work; wine corks, anything!!

  13. AThe Stephen Joseph backpack will solve this problem for it comes with a personalize design.
Distinctive and fashionable, baby diaper bags in camo designs are perfect for dad.
To do this I still put a large plastic bag in my backpack and pack everything
    in this.
