Christmas Plate Tradition

Several years ago, my mom and 2 sisters started a fun Christmas tradition.  We each bought one Christmas dinner plate for each other to exchange.  Each Christmas, we'd each end up with 3 new plates, some the same, some different.  After about 5 years, we stopped, only because we'd each collected so many plates, we no longer had room to display or store them!

Each year I display mine or set the table with them.  Today I helped my Mom decorate her home, and we put out some of her plates in her hutch; the rest we used on her table, but of course I forgot to get that picture.  I thought you might like to see how they looked...

Here are a few of mine on the plate rack:

...and in the China Hutch ...

If you're looking to begin a new holiday tradition, this is really a fun one!

  5. Hello! I'm visiting from Kristins blog! I love your home..and to be honest, I cant imagine someone wanting to live in the cold! I live in Wisconsin and I tell you, the older we get I wonder if I can make it another winter season. We in fact have snow today and probably for the next 2 or 3 days we will get more of it.

I would LOVE to have a pool, and some of your dishes I do have!

  6. Christmas plates are a fun idea. You can display them in so many different ways and then actually use them. Twin and I bought a set of 4 snowmen plates this year and I have them above my kitchen cabinets.

  7. Your plate collection is amazing. I like that they don't all match but obviously your friend knows you well. They all look great together!

I have two sets of Christmas dishes one that is casual and one dressy. Of course, the fun ones are used much more. :)

  8. I love Christmas plates and have a small collection of my own; the majority are from California and each brings memories of the Christmas I bought or received it.

What a lovely tradition you and your family have shared.

Merry Christmas Rhonda to you and yours!
